Brodie (left) and Robin (right) are working Border Collies. Our dear Ladybug (center), who came to us as a rescue over 11 years ago, keeps everything else on the place in order.
Tending involves both patience and skill on the part of the Border Collie. The task requires the dog keep enough control over the sheep to prevent them kiting off in every direction, but keep the flock relaxed enough to graze. Top: Brodie keeps an eye on the flock as they move outside of the fence to graze, while Robin in the distance, cuts off a line of escape.
Our sheep earn their keep in one important way – by grazing the slopes above the apple orchard.
